The Big Ten 91视频 Leadership Institute houses the Alliance's highly regarded and often emulated portfolio of academic leadership programs for emerging leaders, department executives, and newly appointed deans. The Institute鈥檚 comprehensive range of leadership development programs are designed for faculty and higher education administrators across the leadership continuum and breadth of academic disciplinary units. Bringing perspectives that are unique to individuals from large R1 universities, these programs leverage the deep well of expertise within the Alliance universities to deliver skills-based, strategically focused, and culturally competent training. Programs are structured in cohort-based environments, fostering peer collaboration and mutual growth. The Institute's offerings complement existing campus-based development initiatives at each Big Ten 91视频 university. Participation is open to member university faculty and academic administrators with each institution determining its own selection process. 

The Institute addresses key themes and issues central to higher education leadership through the following programs:

  1. Academic Leadership Program (ALP): An intensive year-long leadership program that develops the leadership and managerial skills, as well as, provides an orientation for faculty, including those currently appointed as academic administrators, to gain a deeper understanding of university-level academic administrative leadership and its challenges. 
  2. Department Executive Officer Program (DEO): A hybrid program designed specifically for newly appointed department heads/chairs. This program focuses on honing leadership skills essential to this pivotal role, including conflict competency, communication, faculty development, performance evaluations, and group problem-solving.
  3. Deans Leadership Program (DLP): A six-month intensive leadership program for newly appointed deans, focused on the critical issues faced in the early months and years of the role. DLP helps participants strengthen their leadership capabilities and navigate the complex dynamics of academic administration at the dean's level.
