CIC Executive Director, Barbara McFadden Allen, is quoted in a  in the Wall Street Journal that explored the role of academics in athletic conference realignment.

While the subhead of the article notes how academics play an ambiguous role in some of the conferences (or rather, in some of the chatter about conference shake-ups), the article highlights how the universities of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) have the premiere collaborative infrastructure in American higher education; involving both physical resources as well as human capital.

For instance, CIC universities conduct $7.5 billion in funded research each year, more than any other affiliated group of universities (including the Ivies and the California system). CIC universities produce 14.5 percent of the Ph.D.鈥檚 awarded in the U.S. each year and CIC libraries own more book volumes (82 million) than University of California system (34 million) and the Ivy League (68.8 million).
