Through interviews with several Indiana University administrators, the Indiana Daily Student describes the role of the CIC in.

The article introduces the CIC as the academic consortium of the Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago. It opens by showing that the academic side of the Big Ten had a voice in the recent decision to expand the conference in 2011, when the University of Nebraska will also join the CIC.

The article and the various IU administrators interviewed highlight the benefits of being a CIC member, among them cost savings and ability to collectively problem-solve.

鈥淭he challenges that they face, both from an administrative perspective and often in terms of scholarship and how to teach effectively, are very similar,鈥 said Faith Hawkins, chief of staff to the vice president for research. 鈥淏y having one another to collaborate with and confer with on that, it becomes a source for sort of collective wisdom.鈥

The article features interviews with IU Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Neil Theobald; IU Spokesman Larry MacIntyre; Steve Martin, associate vice president for IU鈥檚 Office of Research Administration; and Hawkins.
